Costanza “Coco” Francavilla is an Italian film composer, music producer, and sound engineer based in Ibiza. Her work combines analog and modular synthesis with acoustic instrumentation and sound manipulation, blending electronic and contemporary classical elements through an evocative and cinematic approach. Her music moves between ambient textures and film composition, shaped by exploratory sound synthesis and deep listening.
Originally from Rome, Coco studied classical guitar at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory before earning a degree in Architecture between the University of Westminster in London and La Sapienza University in Rome. Her thesis in Acoustic Physics explored the relationship between sound, space, and architecture—an interest that continues to inform her compositional approach.
Over the past two decades she has developed an international career across electronic music, film composition, and studio production. Her distinctive vocals and atmospheric electronic work led to collaborations with Tricky (Massive Attack), who described her as “the female version of me.” She worked with him both in the studio and on international tours.
Her work as a composer and music producer includes trailer compositions for major productions such as Blade Runner 2049, The Hunger Games, and The Beguiled. Her music has also been featured in the television series Counterpart and the Emmy Award-winning CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, as well as in international campaigns for Netflix.
As a film composer, her work includes the documentaries Friedkin Uncut — nominated in the Venice Classics section of the Venice Film Festival and featuring interviews with Quentin Tarantino and Francis Ford Coppola — S Is for Stanley, winner of the David di Donatello Award, and The End of Time by Peter Mettler, selected at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Her music has also appeared in films including Free Men, an Amnesty International documentary presented at several international Human Rights Film Festivals, and Mi Chiamo Francesco Totti, which received the Italian Silver Ribbon Award.
During the mid-2000s she relocated to Brooklyn, where she founded Zerokilled Music, a composers’ collective dedicated to hybrid electronic, contemporary classical, and experimental music for film and visual media.
Alongside her film work, Coco has performed internationally as an electronic and ambient artist at festivals and venues including Royal Festival Hall (London), Glastonbury, Sónar, MUTEK, and Montreux Jazz Festival. Her work as a producer and sound engineer has led to collaborations across different musical scenes, from techno artist Adam Beyer to projects connected with the Afterlife label.
In Ibiza she founded Wider Sounds, a recording studio, film editing suite, and creative residency dedicated to sonic experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
She is also the founder of MusicForTheSeaa, an NGO that connects the music community with marine conservation through sound, art, and scientific collaboration. The project includes Posidonia Soundscapes, a UNESCO-endorsed initiative within the United Nations Ocean Decade exploring underwater soundscapes and ocean ecology.
Coco lives with her family in the countryside of Ibiza, where she continues to compose for film, develop collaborative music projects, and explore the relationship between sound, nature, and deep listening.
